All you need to successfully tackle weight loss is motivation, right? Many people would answer this question with a solid yes, but the right answer is an astounding no. If you want to take off the weight and keep it off long term you will need a lot more than motivation.
The journey of shedding weight may start out with a lot of excitement as you are motivated and inspired to get going, but that is not going to last forever. The newness wears off and the process becomes difficult. There will be times when you just aren’t motivated at all and you will need something else to fall back on.
There will be days that you would rather have a dozen donuts than a salad. You won’t want to hit the gym or pop in that exercise DVD sometimes. Motivation is fleeting and will not always stick by your side, so you better have something else up your sleeve.
Rather than motivation, what you need is a sincere commitment to yourself a healthy dose of determination. Sometimes it is nothing but sheer determination that keeps you going toward a healthier life. If you are less than 100% committed you are not likely to meet your goal, or will find the weight coming right back on in the future.
If you want to succeed at your weight goals and keep that healthy body for the rest of your life, a total commitment to real lifestyle change is necessary. You have to come up with a plan that you can really live with and allow specific actions to become daily habits.
Engrained habit is the only thing that will stop you from veering off course and wrecking all the progress you have made in a short period of time. When obstacles are thrown in your path, unexpected stress drops on your shoulders, or you just feel down and out of the game, you will need routines to keep you steady.
The best way to recreate your life in this successful manner is to take it one little habit at a time. Tackle your worst area first and when it becomes a natural part of your world tackle something else. Eventually, it will all come together and you will have a healthier life.
Maybe you will start by getting up a little earlier and working out before you start your day. This may be very hard at first, but you will adjust quickly until it is something you enjoy and do automatically. Then, you can add in something else until your entire life becomes healthier.
Weight loss is a cumulative effect over time. What you do one day matters very little compared to stringing day after day and week after week of progress together.
